Day-to-Day Itinerary : Wild Southern Sri Lanka

DAY 1 DEPART THE UK

Depart London Heathrow and fly directly to Colombo overnight.

Days 2 & 3  Negombo

On arrival you'll transfer to your villa accommodation. The property is close to the beach and offers a base from which to relax into the Sri Lankan pace. During your stay you'll enjoy a walking tour of Negombo town and its lagoon which is home to an array of birdlife.

Days 4 & 5 Sinharaja rainforest

A UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, the primary forests of Sinharaja are home to some of Sri Lanka’s rarest endemic species of flora and fauna. Here you'll have the choice of how far to trek (trails range from 6 to 20 kilometres).  A park guide will accompany you and help you spot the most elusive species of birds, butterflies, reptiles and amphibians.

DAYS 6 & 7 Uda walawe national park (ELEPHANT TRANSIT CAMP AND SAFARIS)

Uduwalawe Elephant Transit Camp is the home to orphaned infant elephants that are nurtured until they are ready to be released into the wild again. For elephant, raptor and bird spotting, Udu Walawe National Park is a real highlight, and safari's will take you through the scrub jungle, grassy plains, and reservoir. The local guide will accompany you in a 4WD jeep.

DAYS 8 – 11 the deep south

From Uda Walawe National Park you'll head to "The Deep South", a journey taking around 2 hours. The beaches here are far less touristy than the busier west coast; it's not unusual to find yourself alone on long, dreamy stretches of palm fringed sand. Here you'll stay in a six bedroom, colonial style villa with fabulous sea views.

During your stay you'll be able to explore Bundala National Park, one of Sri Lanka's most important wetland sanctuaries.

Days 12 & 13 Galle

The Galle Coast is the capital of southern Sri Lanka and a cultural cosmopolitan highlight. A history rich with diverse cultural influences and plenty of sights (such as the 17th century Dutch fort) makes Galle a popular stop for those seeking to learn about Sri Lanka’s colourful past.

There will be time here to explore at your leisure and to explore the Kapu Ela river with a naturalist guide. There is chance to take a cycle tour of the surrounding countryside, exploring local villages along the way.

Days 14 & 15 Colombo

Before your holiday ends you'll have time to visit Colombo. During your stay you'll enjoy an informative walking tour of the Sri Lankan capital in the company of passionate and engaging local guides who will give you an insight into the influences, traditions and cultures that have shaped and formed the Sri Lankan capital over the centuries.

DAY 16 AIRPORT TRANSFER AND JOURNEY HOME

The journey from the hotel to the airport is around three hours by private chauffeured vehicle, and the direct flight from Colombo to Heathrow arrives at 20:05.
