Anilana Pasikuda, Pasikudah Sri Lanka, East Coast
Anilana Pasikuda is a stylish hotel in a lovely location on the headland of Pasikuda Bay, famed for its long sloping beach and shallow sea.
The design is fairly grand and spectacular, particularly the opening lobby/restaurant/bar area with its high roof, open feel and imaginative use of led lighting at night. Entirely open plan in the modern Asian style and fresh sea breezes are given full rein ensuring a cool ambiance is maintained throughout.
The excellent pool is central, with the sea glinting invitingly in the background. The hotel has been designed with relaxation in mind; this is not a place to plan a busy holiday – it is a total getaway. There is very little to do in the surrounding area and the beach is almost entirely private so there will be few interruptions.
The deluxe rooms are large and spacious, with all the modern style and amenities you could want, and designed with views of the pool and the sea beyond. Families will want to look at the ‘Lofts’ as the two floors provide some space and privacy for parents, whilst keeping the children close and the costs down! For small groups, the Anilana Lux Suites occupy a premium spot overlooking the entire resort and the two bedrooms are connected by a spacious living room.
Deluxe - This is our first really 'upmarket' category. It might be a beautiful tiny hotel with very limited facilities or a 5* resort hotel with all the trimmings; but any hotel in this category will be a well-run establishment with very comfortable rooms, a strong service ethos and excellent food.

This was an excellently organised, tailor-made trip. We stayed in friendly hotels in a number of different locations, including a mud house in the jungle, beside a lake and in the hills among the tea plantations. We had a wonderful guide/driver and visited some amazing temples, spectacular world heritage sites, lovely villages and ate delicious, freshly harvested and cooked local food. It was a fabulous holiday!
