Bungalow by Amaya , Kandy Sri Lanka, Kandy and Around
The Bungalow by Amaya is just a short 50 metre walk from the main hotel, but offers its guests a whole other standard of privacy, luxury and personal service. Guests are welcome to use the main hotel for meals and facilities, so staying here really gives you the best of both worlds.
A half hour drive will get you to Kandy, and the Royal Botanical Gardens of Peradeniya are just 15 minutes away. Other highlights in the area include Lankatilake Temple and Embekka Devalaya, a magnificent and intricate Sinhalese shrine. On-site, take advantage of the stunning open-air pool house at the Bungalow – it offers the best (and only really good) view of the natural surroundings below.
The bungalow itself features four bedrooms: three large rooms with king-size beds, and a spacious suite. There’s another luxury family unit nearby with two bedrooms. All rooms are large, bright and furnished in an elegant, contemporary manner.
The main thing the Bungalow by Amaya really has going for it is unbelievable 24-hour service from your personal butler and chef. Ditch the main buffet at the hotel and opt instead for “customised dining”: your meals are prepared according to your wishes and served at the bungalow.
Luxury comes with a price tag, but the Bungalow by Amaya certainly delivers. The only thing that’s missing here is a really spectacular view from the hilltop.
Deluxe - This is our first really 'upmarket' category. It might be a beautiful tiny hotel with very limited facilities or a 5* resort hotel with all the trimmings; but any hotel in this category will be a well-run establishment with very comfortable rooms, a strong service ethos and excellent food.

This was an excellently organised, tailor-made trip. We stayed in friendly hotels in a number of different locations, including a mud house in the jungle, beside a lake and in the hills among the tea plantations. We had a wonderful guide/driver and visited some amazing temples, spectacular world heritage sites, lovely villages and ate delicious, freshly harvested and cooked local food. It was a fabulous holiday!
