Sri Lanka, Kandy and Around
Info : Cinnamon Tree
Cinnamon Tree is a hidden gem in Katugastota, about 20 minutes from Kandy. This is where to come for a truly authentic Kandyan experience at a price you can afford. The lovely house features traditional stylings and is surrounded by a spacious garden. The caretaker, Wilson, is friendly and can even organize to have you picked up from the nearby train station if you wish.
The first floor features two double rooms and a separate family room with alfresco bath areas that are modern and spacious. There are more sleeping and lounging spaces on the upper floor. The house isn’t air-conditioned and there’s no pool, but the property makes up for this with its cool charm, tasteful colour accents and fantastic Western and Sri Lankan cuisine. Cinnamon Tree is a real authentic Kandy experience, from the architectural style and furnishings right through to the wonderful brand of Sri Lankan hospitality.
The house is not close to any restaurants or sights, so if it’s culinary variety and close proximity to the city you’re seeking, you won’t find it here. Although it certainly is a great choice for peace and quiet (except for the odd train rolling through). Cinnamon Tree is not opulent – it’s more about olden day charm than five-star luxury. But the price is good and it’s a beautiful and pleasant option for exploring Kandy and surroundings.
Comfort - This is our lead in category. There will generally be a no frills approach and while some will be characterful, some will do exactly what it says on the tin - provide a clean, comfortable and good value place to spend the night. These places are normally 3* hotels.
We hadn't opted for the luxury hotels but gone for good quality. I wonder what luxury is like because all our hotels and rooms were fantastic. All spacious and well appointed, the staff were all very helpful and friendly.
