Info : Clingendael
This stunning boutique hotel has bags of colonial charm, lovely décor and tranquil public areas, with everything needed for a relaxed and comfortable stay.
Clingendael is a luxury private house set on a lovely golf course in the rolling Kandyan hills that has been lovingly restored over the years to its former Dutch-colonial grandeur. It is about 25 minutes outside of Kandy, and provides a tranquil oasis in which to unwind after a day of site seeing in Kandy. There are plenty of outdoor spaces, with wicker chairs on manicured lawns that are perfect for tea or a nice drink in the evening. The golf course itself, the Victoria Golf Course, is scenic and professionally run – a very nice treat for golf enthusiasts in Sri Lanka. There is a lovely infinity pool with a jacuzzi corner and panoramic rural views.
The décor throughout the house oozes colonial charm, with period-style furniture, teak wood, elegant fabrics and clean lines. The suites and bathrooms are all lovingly decorated in heritage-style and are extremely comfortable. Many dietary requirements are catered to here, with fresh and exciting Sri Lankan food on offer to be taken in a variety of locations, including the verandas, gardens, pool-side or overlooking the Koi pond. The staff are attentive but unobtrusive.
Clingendael is a truly beautiful hotel in a quiet location that provides a welcome slice of luxury just outside of the hustle and bustle of Kandy.
