Sri Lanka, The South Coast
Info : Coconut Grove
Located in Ahangama, a fishing village famous for its stilt fishermen, Coconut Grove is a beautiful traditional country villa. Only a 30 minute drive from Galle and a 10 minute walk from the nearest beach, this tropical paradise is a good place for families travelling together or a large group of friends.
As the name suggests, the villa is set amongst a grove of coconut trees. Situated inland, the area surrounding the villa is made up of paddy fields and tea plantations. Whilst the villa is not a beachfront property, Mirissa and Unawatuna beaches are amongst some of the finest beaches in Sri Lanka and are only a short drive away. There are plenty of opportunities for the adventurous to go trekking or cycling in the area and for a bit of culture visit some of the Buddhist temples scattered along the coastal area.
The four air-conditioned bedrooms can accommodate up to eight people. There are two dining rooms, and a comfortable spacious living area. The villa still retains the traditional architectural features and as such, guests can take pleasure in sitting outside on the veranda for an evening drink or enjoy relaxing in the central courtyard escaping the heat of the day.
Its setting amongst lush tropical gardens and its proximity to some of the best beaches on the south coast make this villa a great option for those wanting privacy without being too far from busy town life.
Villa - The 'Villa' is a similar concept to the 'holiday home' in Europe, with some key differences. Our villas in Asia are always fully staffed with cooking and service provided for you. Staff will generally cook meals to your specification and purchase food and drink for you at cost price. They are generally pretty smart and luxurious too and feel in many ways like a small private hotel. Nonetheless, your villa is still effectively a home and therefore you cannot expect the same level of training, English speaking or slickness that you might expect from a hotel at a similar cost. As the owners are not generally holiday professionals we cannot guarantee the quality of a villa matches expectations in a way we can with hotels. That said, the personal local touch means villas are generally much more friendly and interactive than hotels and have much to recommend them. The privacy and space makes them wonderful for families, groups of friends or couples looking for privacy and relaxation.
Thanks for Harriet for arranging the candlelit dinner.
