Info : Duwa Villa
Just a short journey away from the historic town of Galle is Duwa Villa. It consists of two stunning colonial style bungalows set in 9 acres of land on the edge of Koggala Lake. It's perfect for couples, families or small groups looking for an idyllic place to relax in. With modern fittings, antique furnishings and secluded swimming pools, the villas provides a peaceful contrast to the nearby heritage town.
Duwa Villas is set in beautiful tropical gardens on an island in Koggala Lake. There are two colonial style villas one with four bedrooms and another with five. Both boast beautiful pools and are very idyllic. The five bedroom 'Honeymoon Suite' villa, in particular, is set on the lake's edge and is very beautiful (and romantic!) The design of the accomodation has been the project of an Australian architect and his wife, an interior designer. They really care about the property and often stay for their own holidays.
Staff have been trained from the local village and have kept them on from the very beginning so service is consistantly to a very high standard. The resident chef prepared fantastic cuisine with ingredients sourced from local markets. There is an array of activities on offer, from canoeing, paddle boarding, cycling, cooking lessons and walking tours through the nearby Handungoda Tea Estate. If you stay at the right time we can also arrange whale watching along the coast.
Rooms are well appointed and fitted with air conditioning. Not all are ensuite so it is best to discuss options with your consultant to make sure your party has a suitable room configuration.
This is a resort ideal for couples, families and small groups alike. It perhaps does not suits those wanting to be at the centre of the action in Galle but it does offer a nice peaceful base from which to explore the town and the surrounding region. The laidback atmosphere, friendly staff and characterful buildings mean it is a very unique experience and a wonderful place to stay whilst visiting Sri Lanka's south coast.
Deluxe - This is our first really 'upmarket' category. It might be a beautiful tiny hotel with very limited facilities or a 5* resort hotel with all the trimmings; but any hotel in this category will be a well-run establishment with very comfortable rooms, a strong service ethos and excellent food.
We called Harriet in the UK and asked to move to a hotel with more facilities or closer to town. Our request was relayed through Colombo to the manager and resulted in a visit from the owner asking how he could make our stay better.
