Sri Lanka, Colombo, Negombo & Around
Info : Ellen's Place
An old house built for a physician in the 1900s, Ellen's place is now a small hotel offering comfortable rooms to travellers visiting Colombo. With contemporary fittings and a great location, it acts as a very good base from which to explore the city.
From here you can visit the colonial district with its Dutch Hospital and British administrative buildings. Enjoy high tea at the Dilmah Tea Lounge and sample some of the best leaves on offer from the plantations.
Rooms are comfortable and spacious with all the modern conveniences. Adjacent ground floor rooms are ideal for families whilst the upstairs offer balconies with views over the rooftops - perfect for couples looking for something more special. Located in a quieter district of the city, Ellen's Place offers an oasis from the bustle of the city centre.
Restaurants are a short drive away rather than a short walk, needless to say this is a welcome relief in the heat.
The hotel is ideal for those looking for a comfortable, good value hotel and a place from which to explore. It is perhaps not so suitable for those wishing to completely soak in Sri Lankan heritage and culture as it is a little way from the cultural hub.
Comfort - This is our lead in category. There will generally be a no frills approach and while some will be characterful, some will do exactly what it says on the tin - provide a clean, comfortable and good value place to spend the night. These places are normally 3* hotels.
- Outdoor Pool
All the hotels were excellent - lovely rooms, really friendly staff and some great Sri Lankan food, especially at Ulagalla, Kandy House and Tea Trails.
