Hidden away in a dream garden lies Illuks, the hideaway creation of its owner and his love for the mountains and flora of Sri Lanka. Nestled amongst the forest cover on a ridge in the Knuckles mountains, this little gem is known by very few and is all the better for it.

The villa consists of one master bedroom, one bathroom, an outdoor bathroom, dining room and lounge/reading room. The lounge and dining room also double up as comfy bedrooms when required, with mattresses and cushions. A small but quality sound system is available and electricity is provided by solar power. The design is open plan and the villa is lovingly furnished in homely and stylish manner. There is an extensive library with many specialist books on the flora and fauna of Sri Lanka and, particularly, the Knuckles area. The villas is an unofficial centre of research into the biodiversity of the Knuckles and guests can learn much here if they are interested.

Recently made available on occasion, it offers lucky guests the opportunity to sample the stunning scenery of the knuckles whilst staying in a wonderful and unique place. Illuks is staffed although you will feel more as if you have the place to yourself. Food, prepared in a traditional style, is served when you like and you have the freedom to treat the place as if you own it. The garden is simply magical, with many winding paths through the diverse range of forest trees which have been replanted. Garden chairs offer great reading spaces whilst the view from the back lounge is serene and calm.

Food is one of the true highlights if Illuks. The vast majority is grown organically in the garden here, whilst the rest of the produce is either sourced from local farms or other small organic plantations. Tasty and wholesome, you will get to sample a wide variety of hearty Sri Lankan dishes prepared to a standard rarely achieved elsewhere. Colour co-ordinated, diverse, beautifully presented and exceptionally tasty.

Great walks are possible in any direction from the bungalow. Staff will be happy to show you some of the many trails. These can be tailored to your desires - the views in the surrounding peeks are simply stunning, with panoramic vistas. The garden itself takes much exploration. Be warned about the leeches though plentiful in certain swampy areas of the garden! All part of the incredible biodiversity at hand in the knuckles region. A place few visitors to Sri Lanka get to experience.
