Located just outside Bandarawela, the Kirchhayn Bungalow is a charming boutique property. Within the same family for many generations, the bungalow has been restored as a part luxury retreat, part heritage home.
Five suite rooms, all unique in design and decoration, await visitors to this charming part of the 'hill country'. All have en-suite bathrooms, with showers and baths. Four-poster beds and sprung mattresses adorn each suite, with old family photos and heirlooms incorporated into the decoration.
There is a large dining room, with antique furniture, and two large lounges. Food is a mix of western and lavish Sri Lankan. The veranda is a popular spot for breakfast and afternoon tea, with lovely views across the garden and tea covered hills which surround the bungalow.
The bungalow has vast landscaped gardens, with glorious lawns and blooming flower gardens. A tennis court, mini-golf course and swimming pool give the property a new edge and widen its appeal.
The manager will be happy to give you a tour of the large plantation and explain the tea production process in great detail. Locally produced teas and coffees are served fresh to the bungalow's guests.
Bandarawela is an excellent base for the southern highlands, and the picturesque towns of Ella, Badulla and Haputale are easily reachable. Walking is wonderful in the area, and the pleasant climate is conducive to longer excursions.
Luxury - Luxury hotels would have a superb level of service, very comfortable and usually spacious bedrooms, excellent food, great design and character. For us, when we visited, these places all had the 'wow factor'. A luxury hotel should satisfy the criteria of the most discerning clients.
