Sri Lanka, South West Beaches
Info : Max Wadiya
Max Wadiya is a boutique hotel located on a quiet sandy beach close to Ambalangoda. Formerly the treasured private residence of its' owners, it was transformed into a small hotel after work commitments drew them away from Sri Lanka.
Situated amidst a large landscaped garden, the two buildings of which the villa is comprised stand amongst the tall coconut trees and grassy lawn. The double storey villa contains three bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, a lounge, kitchen and veranda. The rooms are comfortable and well furnished and retain some of their original charm and design features.
Adjacent to the villa is a separate building which houses two, modern self contained suites. These have large bathrooms and comfortable sitting areas with good views. The villa and suites can be booked individually or as a whole.
The property has a very laid back atmosphere, handed down from it's owners. There are plenty of spaces to relax and enjoy the natural beauty, from the ample seating in the garden to the beachside summer hut. The garden has lots of shady areas which are ideal for reading and dozing or drying off from a refreshing swim. A new addition is a swimming pool!
The villa has a wide beach frontage, and the sandy stretch is almost always deserted as the villa is not located inside the conventional tourist areas. This area is ideal for swimming & boogie-boarding and the sunsets are often breathtaking. Staff are friendly and attentive and the owners take great care in preparing for your arrival based on information regarding your personal requirements. The rooms and suites are usually sold on full board and meals will be tailored to your tastes. Seafood is a speciality. Nearby Ambalangoda town is the centre for traditional mask making and well worth a visit. Many other day trips are easily organised to other breathtaking beaches and local attractions.
Max Wadiya offers you the rare chance to book a contemporary villa by the room or suite should your group size be small. The facilities, rates and location are truly excellent - and although some residual noise can be heard during the day from the road at the front and the occasional trains which pass on the coastal line nearby this does not disturb the blissful peace.
The rooms have recently been upgraded and are now all air conditioned and wireless internet is available throughout.
Deluxe - This is our first really 'upmarket' category. It might be a beautiful tiny hotel with very limited facilities or a 5* resort hotel with all the trimmings; but any hotel in this category will be a well-run establishment with very comfortable rooms, a strong service ethos and excellent food.
The accommodation arranged for us was truly fantastic and we had to pinch ourselves sometimes - especially at the plantation, Villa Rosa and The Dutch House - WOW! The food and service everywhere were top quality.
