Surrounded by palm groves, their bay-side huts are great for relaxing and taking in the salty beach breezes and lovely natural surroundings. The hexagonal wooden cabanas are spacious and comfortable, though not really meant for luxury travel - there’s no air conditioning, but you can expect hot water. Simplicity is the name of the game at Palm Paradise Cabanas: unique and secluded accommodation by the gorgeous and quiet east coast beach of Tangalle, with friendly, laid-back staff who go out of their way to help wherever they can.
Delicious local curries and fresh market seafood is prepared on-site, and the resort, known for its wonderful hospitality, has many loyal repeat visitors. Between December and April is the best time to book a trip, because the sea is calm. Numerous small coves and secluded stretches of coastline are great for exploring, and the nearby town of Tangalle is friendly.
Popular day-trips include the Bundalla Sanctuary, full of exotic birdlife, and the National Parks at Yala and Uda Walawe.
Comfort - This is our lead in category. There will generally be a no frills approach and while some will be characterful, some will do exactly what it says on the tin - provide a clean, comfortable and good value place to spend the night. These places are normally 3* hotels.
