Boulder Garden , Sinharaja Sri Lanka, Hill Country
Nature enthusiasts will love the concept behind the Boulder Garden. Lovingly custom built into the jagged boulders and mammoth caves of the Sinharaja Rainforest, this hotel makes the most of the jungle’s cavernous spaces. Located on a southern hillside, rooms are uniquely designed, many offering cave-like architecture, and one open room making the most of the natural jungle light. All are stylish and comfortable, though you are essentially, sleeping in a cave!
Beneath a giant overhanging rock lies the restaurant, serving quality Sri Lankan and international cuisine. The swimming pool is, you guessed it, like a large rock pool, with a towering canopy of verdant vegetation and lofty mountains. Numerous pathways lead to hiking, scrambling, and exploring tracks, and the surroundings are just spectacular. Guests preferring not to get their feet muddy, or wanting a relaxing indoor holiday might wish to stay elsewhere - leeches are common on the way to the upper private caves, and the air is sometimes extremely humid.
The Boulder Garden is a very special base for exploring the spectacular Sinharaja Rainforest, full of diverse and wonderful flora and fauna displays.

This was an excellently organised, tailor-made trip. We stayed in friendly hotels in a number of different locations, including a mud house in the jungle, beside a lake and in the hills among the tea plantations. We had a wonderful guide/driver and visited some amazing temples, spectacular world heritage sites, lovely villages and ate delicious, freshly harvested and cooked local food. It was a fabulous holiday!
