Hideaway, Gampaha
Sri Lanka, Colombo, Negombo & Around

Info : Hideaway

A hidden gem situated within five acres of lush plantation close to both Colombo and the airport, The Hideaway feels a world away yet is ideally located for the first night or final days of a tour.

This lovingly restored period villa combines colonial elegance with modern wrought iron furniture and cosy sofas to ensure a comfortable and relaxing stay. With carefully chosen antique features, the bedrooms are simple yet luxurious, and exotic external bathrooms add to the feeling of peace and calm. There’s a good entertainment system in the lounge area with a large selection of music and DVDs, and a small bar provides additional opportunity for relaxation.

Although most guests are too charmed to venture far from the villa, for a more active visit there is a small gym with a billiards table and a pleasant swimming pool area. It is also possible to arrange local excursions. Those wanting to explore the plantation are welcome to walk around the area and learn from the helpful staff who will happily explain the different methods of cultivation and the fruits and vegetables growing on the land.

The pineapples that are the main crop here make some of the finest juices you’ll find in any hotel and the friendly staff will prepare fresh dishes and local specialities throughout your stay using produce collected from the plantation and garden. The menu is varied and cooked to an excellent standard.

Guests are encouraged to treat The Hideaway as if it were home and you may well find that you never want to leave.

Rating

Luxury - Luxury hotels would have a superb level of service, very comfortable and usually spacious bedrooms, excellent food, great design and character. For us, when we visited, these places all had the 'wow factor'. A luxury hotel should satisfy the criteria of the most discerning clients.

Guest Comments for Hideaway

Thought the plan to allow us to stay at The Hideaway for one night on arrival was a good one as it enabled us to be refreshed before travelling on, and the food was excellent.

Our first night in The Hideaway was just that - well hidden - we did wonder after a good hour in the car where we were going (!) but it was delightful after a long plane journey.

Our first stop 'The Hideaway' - the staff were charming and the food they prepared was delicious.

The Hideaway was quirky and charming, staff delightful and food basic but good.

Customer Feedback
This was an excellently organised, tailor-made trip. We stayed in friendly hotels in a number of different locations, including a mud house in the jungle, beside a lake and in the hills among the tea plantations. We had a wonderful guide/driver and visited some amazing temples, spectacular world heritage sites, lovely villages and ate delicious, freshly harvested and cooked local food. It was a fabulous holiday!
