Sri Lanka, Cultural Triangle
Info : Water's Edge
A small eco lodge with views of the Great Stupas in the distance, Waters Edge is a simple lodge located just outside the heart of Sri Lanka’s ancient city of Anuradhapura. Water’s Edge lives up to its name as it is situated right on the shores of Tissawewa Lake.
An idyllic setting with a beautiful tree-filled garden, the lodge is the place to relax away from the hustle and bustle that is Anuradhapura. It is a great base for visiting the surrounding areas, with a host of archaeological sites to be seen as well as the wildlife of this dry zone in Sri Lanka. Water’s Edge is only a 45 minute drive away from Wilpattu National Park.
The lodge can accommodate up to six people in the three allocated bedrooms. The living and dining room open out onto the garden which rolls down to the banks of the Tissawewa Lake. The sprawling garden is a great place to relax under the trees with a book in hand and a cup of tea. Run like a family holiday home, the lodge offers a comfortable stay for anyone passing through Anuradhapura.
Water’s Edge is a great value base with a homely vibe from which to explore the cultural triangle.
Comfort - This is our lead in category. There will generally be a no frills approach and while some will be characterful, some will do exactly what it says on the tin - provide a clean, comfortable and good value place to spend the night. These places are normally 3* hotels.
This was an excellently organised, tailor-made trip. We stayed in friendly hotels in a number of different locations, including a mud house in the jungle, beside a lake and in the hills among the tea plantations. We had a wonderful guide/driver and visited some amazing temples, spectacular world heritage sites, lovely villages and ate delicious, freshly harvested and cooked local food. It was a fabulous holiday!
