A small but spacious boutique camp with 4 tents right on the edge of Wilpattu National Park, this option is a great choice in terms of location, just 5 minutes from the gates of the park.
The standout feature of Wilpattu Safari Camp is its location: you are almost guaranteed first entry into the park itself in the morning and afternoon. And if you are looking to be surrounded by nature and wildlife this is a fantastic place as its open setting means that peacocks and other animals wander through the camp, and at night you can hear the elephants trumpeting in the distance. It should be noted that although the tents have great amenities, it is an eco-lodge so it is also quite basic; we think this really allows the nature around you to take centre stage.
After a long afternoon in the park the camp is a great place to unwind: sitting by the bonfire with a drink and chatting about the wildlife you have seen, before enjoying an incredible four course meal cooked from scratch by the on-site chef, is the perfect way to end a spectacular day.
This is a very good choice if you want a bit of an adventure and some privacy in a really lovely natural setting.
Comfort - This is our lead in category. There will generally be a no frills approach and while some will be characterful, some will do exactly what it says on the tin - provide a clean, comfortable and good value place to spend the night. These places are normally 3* hotels.
