Family Angkor Adventure and Thai Beach
Bespoke Holiday Itinerary / Experience Tour

Info : Family Angkor Adventure and Thai Beach

This 2 week family holiday covers the fascinating Angkor Complex where you will explore the magnificent ancient relics on bike with an experienced guide to-hand, a fun and intriguing way to uncover the secrets of the Angkor Empire. While ample time is dedicated to exploration of the ancient Grand Circuit, other highlights include intimate glimpses of life in rural Cambodia, interaction with the Cambodian locals, and the discovery of local Khmer culture and customs as you ride through this fascinating region.

The adventure in Cambodia is followed by 8 days at one of Thailand’s excellent beaches. We have included a stay in a family suite at The Boathouse Resort in an excellent spot on Kata Beach in Southern Phuket. This location provides plenty of activities to keep everyone entertained from exhilarating water sports or relaxed spa treatments in the day to low key markets and fantastic local eateries in the evenings. The tour is by no means limited to this particular beach hotel or island and we can tailor the beach part of the itinerary according to your preferences and the weather at your chosen time of year, please call one of our travel consultants for expert advice.

Highlights include

  • Explore Angkor by bike, much more fun than the typical “coach tour” mode.
  • Visit off the beaten track parts of rural Cambodia.
  • Enjoy the markets and street restaurants of vibrant Siem Reap
  • 8 days beach life in Southern Thailand with the option to be active or relax.
  • Jungle, snorkelling and kayaking opportunities in Southern Thailands national parks.

Cycle Tour Profile: The five day bike tour covers 126km in total, with two full days and one half day of cycling. The terrain covers tarmac roads and wide dirt tracks, some of which are off-road, although no technical experience is necessary. The distance is well-paced with plenty of breaks and sightseeing along the way, and the tour guides have ample knowledge about the temple sites, customs, history, and local life. There are no significant inclines, and the trip is suitable for all riders of all ages; a great choice for a family cycling tour.

30km Ride

Day 4 Siem Reap

After breakfast, the ride departs from Siem Reap and travels to the complex via a different path, through a quieter entrance. Choosing the back roads, you will enter the countryside off the main tourist road. Greet the people going about their daily lives as you ride past schools and villages. You will see the often missed Banteay Samre, a worthwhile and unforgettable ride. Pausing at Banteay Srei for a stretch and a break, the tour then continues to the River of 1,000 Ligas and lunch is served at a local restaurant. Leave the bikes and hike to the peak, where fascinating carvings line the riverbed. After the return hike, a bus transfer will take you back to Siem Reap.

51km Ride

Day 5 Siem Reap

Following breakfast, the destination is Roulous, a small and charming village full of ancient Khmer history and many of the earliest permanent buildings from this era. The ride travels 15km through rural Cambodian trails, with plenty of chances to greet and interact with the local people. Stop for a snack and a drink before continuing on to Kampong Phluck, the floating village. Witness the mystical submerged forest and enjoy the tranquility. A boat tour will lead you around the floating village and through the trees. Lunch is followed by a return to land, and you can either drive or ride back to Siem Reap.

45km Ride

Day 6 Siem Reap - Phuket

Today your guide and driver will meet you for your transfer to the airport for your onward flight to Phuket. On arrival in Phuket you will be transferred to The Boathouse where you’ll check into your family suite. The rest of the day is at leisure.

Day 7-13 Phuket

You’ll spend 8 nights at the beach, Kata Beach offers plenty to do but is not too raucous and built up!

As The Boathouse is right on the beach, you can relax on the white sands or on the adjacent sun deck whilst children play on the beach. The sea is clear and watersports are available. The resort offers Thai Cooking courses, spa treatments and great restaurants but you can also enjoy great food in nearby local restaurants, there are small local shops and markets close by too.

Further afield there are many activities you can enjoy from Phuket. A boat tour to surrounding islands is a must and provides a great opportunity to snorkel and observe marine life in the aquamarine waters. We also highly recommend a sea canoe or kayaking adventure through the dramatic limestone karst scenery of Phang Nga National park. An adventure tour into the jungle of Khao Sok National Park is great fun too and provides chance to interact with Elephants. Speak to your travel consultant if you would like to add any of these excursions to your holiday.
