West Coast Island Explorer

This journey along the west coast of southern Thailand takes you to some of the best beaches in South East Asia. There is time to relax and explore as you travel from island (Koh) to island each time getting further away from the tourist crowds.

You’ll begin your journey on the well-known island of Phuket, this is a logical starting point and you’ll find it interesting to compare Phuket to the islands you’ll subsequently visit. After a couple of days acclimatising you’ll begin your expedition down south, the first boat will take you to Koh Yao for a few days, and then Koh Lanta and finally you’ll visit the rarely explored island of Koh Kradan. We feel that with this tour you’ll get a perspective on the diversity and beauty of the southern Thai islands that few tourists get to taste.

Begin at the Indigo Pearl hotel a “design hotel” on the shores of Phuket, although Phuket is Thailand’s most popular island it still has some very beautiful beaches and a great deal of charm. Next you’ll move on to the pristine, unspoilt coves and jungles of Koh Yao for a stay in the laid-back and idyllic Ko Yao Island Resort.

After Ko Yao it’s necessary to spend a night on the main land at Ao-Nang in Krabi. Ao Nang has a dramatic backdrop of limestone rock formations and a bustling little centre with markets, restaurants and the odd bar.

Next you move on to the sleepy and relaxed island of Koh Lanta where you stay at Sri Lanta.  This is a great place to meet locals, sample some local seafood and while away the day’s snorkelling and kayaking off the sandy shores.

Finally you travel from Koh Lanta to Koh Kradan. A large proportion of Kradan remains part of Hat Chao Mai National Park and the island is known for its incredible crystal-clear blue waters, pristine beaches and teeming coral reefs.

This trip tends to work best from November to May due to Thai weather patterns and boat operations. Outside of these months our “East Coast Explorer” tour may be more suitable. Call us to discuss the time of year you are looking to travel.

Day 1 Depart the uk

Depart London

Days 2 to 4 phuket

Arrive in Phuket and transfer to your hotel, the Indigo Pearl. The hotel is one of Phuket’s most chic design hotels with a massive range of facilities. Built on a former tin mine, the hotel infuses elements of Phuket’s history as a tin mining centre with modern design in an effective and creative way. Three nights here will give you a chance to unwind after your flight, enjoy the hotel, and relax on Phuket’s beautiful Nai Yang beach. You can also take this time to explore the bustling busy town at the island’s centre which has great opportunities for shopping and eating out.

Days 5 to 7 koh yao

Transfer by road and boat to Koyao Island Resort on the unspoilt island of Koh Yao. Koh Yao is quiet and peaceful, with striking natural features like palm-covered mountains, idyllic beaches, and mangrove forests. Koyao Island Resort is understated and maintains a laid-back feel allowing for true relaxation, although it could be described as luxurious too, making it a true beach hideaway.

Day 8 krabi

Today take a boat from Koh Yao to the bustling town of Krabi for a view of another part of Thailand’s west coast. Accommodation is in town at The Cliff in Ao-Nang, a traditional style boutique hotel with beautiful views over the stunning and extraordinary limestone rock formations that are famous in Krabi. Ao-Nang beach itself has a small market and lots of local bars and restaurants for an evening out.

Days 9 to 12 koh lanta

Transfer by boat to Koh Lanta, a laid-back and sleepy island. As you travel further south you’ll notice the cuisine change subtly as it becomes influenced by nearby Malaysia, Koh Lanta has a reputation for its great food including great fresh seafood. On Koh Lanta we include accommodation at Sri Lanta, a number of bungalows spread out across the hillside throughout the trees, offering guests a peaceful back-to-nature feel. The hotel itself is on a lovely stretch of white sandy beach and within walking distance of local amenities. Koh Lanta is well-known for its clear waters with great snorkelling and diving enjoyed from boats off shore.

Days 13 to 15 koh kradan

Transfer by boat to Koh Kradan for the last part of your adventure. Kradan is a small island and one of the most remote in the area. The island is stunningly picturesque with incredibly clear bright blue water and paradise-like white sandy beaches perfect for swimming. Snorkelling is possible and the coral reefs offshore are home to exotic species. There are hidden beaches around the island reachable only by kayak.

The hotel we include here is the Seven Seas Resort, on a fine stretch of beach perfect for whiling away the time. By virtue of its remoteness the hotel is relatively simple but has a few deluxe luxury touches and most rooms have ocean views.

The island is very quiet with few developments and no local villages so 3 nights here will give you an opportunity to switch off from the rest of the world in an idyllic beach hideaway.

Day 16 trang

Transfer from Koh Kradan to Trang airport for your flight to Bangkok. Depending on available international flight times, an overnight in Bangkok may be necessary on the way home.

As every holiday is unique to you, prices vary. To give you an indication, two-week holidays range from roughly £3,000 to £8,000 per adult, with an average price of £3,500. We also offer substantial child and seasonal discounts.
