Bhu Nga Thani,
Thailand, West Coast and Islands
Info : Bhu Nga Thani
The image of beautiful Railay Beach in Krabi province is one of the most famous of Thailand. Reachable only by boat, Railay has escaped large scale development and the low level hotels blend into the natural environment. Bhu Nga Thani is in our opinion the best hotel option in Railay for those that don’t have the budget required to stay at the Rayavadee.
Railay beach is divided into two areas, West and East. West is the “picture postcard” beach and we feel that the majority of hotels on Railay West have relied solely on this location to attract visitors and do not offer the quality and value that we expect. Bhu Nga Thani is located on Railay East and there is a Mangrove area at the front of the resort so in order to swim or sunbathe on the sand, you have to walk for 5 minutes over to Railay West or Phra Nang Beach. As a consequence of not being located on the more desirable beach, a real effort has been made to make Bhu Nga Thani an excellent and appealing hotel, with large spacious well designed rooms at a very reasonable price.
The restaurant at Bhu Nga Thani offers excellent food and fresh coffee, while the staff are friendly and attentive. The public areas are extremely well designed and attractive – with a clean modern design throughout. The infinity pool is large, with shallow areas for kids. The room type to go for is the Deluxe Sea View. Identical in size to the lead in ‘Deluxe’ room, it has the advantage of height and a view over the Mangroive Forest out to sea. Honeymooners might like to go for the Deluxe Grand Rooms, which offer extra space and a vast King Sized Bed.
Railay itself is remote but it’s not an isolated retreat as its popularity means the beach is always bustling with activity. It offers lovely laid back dining options, chilled beach bars and a feeling of escaping the mainland. The rock climbing here is brilliant and there are many options for boat trips out to nearby islands and snorkelling. It’s a great choice for a few nights on route to or from Koh Lanta or one of the southern islands.
Bhu Nga Thani is exceptionally good value if you are happy to have to take a short walk to access the famous Railay West and Phra Nang beaches.
Deluxe - This is our first really 'upmarket' category. It might be a beautiful tiny hotel with very limited facilities or a 5* resort hotel with all the trimmings; but any hotel in this category will be a well-run establishment with very comfortable rooms, a strong service ethos and excellent food.
I started doing a search on the net for specialists and came across Experience Travel Group. I liked a lot what I saw on their website so started an online dialogue with one of their operators. She quickly realised what we are looking for and got one of her colleges who was a specialist in this area. A chap called David Gookey called me back to chat about what we wanted. We gave David a brief for our budget and the type of things that we wanted to do and he did the rest. All I can say is he put together the perfect holiday, sorted out the best tours and some incredible hotels. All guides, flights, transport and transfers taken care of. If you're reading this David thank you once again.
