Thailand, North and East
Info : Khum Lanna
A boutique countryside retreat and cultural experience all in one, Khum Lanna is an exciting hotel just outside of Chiang Mai.
The lodges themselves (there are two) are charming, and whist relatively basic still make for a comfortable stay. Khum Lanna is set amidst emerald-green rice fields with lovely mountain valley views in a village called Phrao, an hour and a half from Chiang Mai. The 10 guest rooms are all en suite with good facilities, and are decorated with wooden furnishings and colourful locally sewn fabrics. There are open, airy dining and social areas for guests to relax and chat to the lodge staff and owners who offer up a fascinating introduction to rural Thai life.
Khum Lanna has a large herb and vegetable garden and is largely self-sustaining, with delicious fresh food and Thai cooking classes on offer. Other activities include cycling, meeting local farmers, markets, herbal steam baths, alms giving to monks and much more. This hotel is a stunning rural retreat for those wanting to escape the hustle and bustle of Chiang Mai and explore Thailand’s beautiful countryside.
Eco/Adventure - This category covers gorgeous lodges in the jungle, comfortable safari camps and dreamy, but simple, beach cabanas. These places defy conventional categorisation: what is communing with nature to one person may be terrifying bugs to another! Many of these places are very comfortable and the service generally of a very high level - but please read the website review carefully and/or talk to us and be sure to have understood what you are letting yourselves in for!
Really enjoyed the food tour. It took us to a part of Bangkok that we would never have visited. We visited 5 restaurants, some of which you would probably dismiss out of hand and carry on walking past from their appearance. They were also very clued up on local knowledge so it was a much a cultural tour as food tour.
