La Laanta, Koh Lanta Island Thailand, West Coast and Islands
La Laanta feels a million miles away from the rest of the world: featuring rustic thatched beach huts with a jungle-covered mountain backdrop and the best beach in Koh Lanta. Its chilled out and friendly and the lush surrounding scenery is stunning.
The resort is fairly isolated on Koh Lanta: guests are picked up from the Same Same But Different guesthouse in a 4X4 by hotel staff, as reaching the hotel involves a 20 minute off-road journey through roads which can be quite tough to negotiate depending on the season. Although it does add on to the journey time, La Laantas isolation adds to its appeal as a real retreat.
Rooms are simple but attractively furnished. Horizon Gaze Villas and Enchanted Villas sit in the shade of the jungle towards the back of the resort, but the pick are the 5 Sandcastle Villas which are closest to the pool and beach. Should an extra bed be required for families, the Sunset Splendour Villas can accommodate one.
La Laanta also offers a good range of activities available to book through the hotel: the resort has a small library where its possible to borrow DVDs for free, plus a diving and kayaking centre. It has two swimming pools next to the sand, one childrens pool and one hydro pool , and access to a beautiful stretch of unspoiled sandy beach, great for swimming and sunbathing. It is truly one of the best desert island-feel hideaways in Thailand. La Laanta will not appeal to all, but for those seeking such a simple, subtly-stylish and remote hideaway, there is perhaps no better place.
Superior - This is what we would describe as our standard category. These will be decent 3/4* hotels providing a really good level of service. We would generally expect them to be providing a little something extra, in terms of character, guest experience or facilities too.

We are normally very independant travellers, but for various reasons decided in this instance to use Experience Travel Group, and what a good idea that turned out to be!
