Proud Phu Fah is a new resort deep in the Mae Rim Valley on the outskirts of Chiang Mai. Lovingly crafted and designed, this charming little resort offers accommodation in nine unique villas spread alongside a stream that runs down the property's hillside.
Each villa is unique in design and decoration. The construction of the resort has involved the creativity of local artists and craftsmen. Comfortable and intelligent, the design ethos has been to charm rather than pamper. There is an element of fun about the villas, and an air of laid back calm permeates the resort.
The villas are tall and slim, with massive glass-panelled walls to allow maximum light. There are two principal types; Relaxant Villa and Private Villa, the only difference is that the latter has a plasma television, the former only a sound system. Some have split level flooring, with the bed on the upper floor and lounge area below. All have enclosed en suite bathrooms with hot showers. Also, there is one Honeymoon Villa, with romantic design touches. A large, private outdoor candlelit bathtub is the key feature. You needn't be on a honeymoon to stay in this villa, however.
Wireless internet is available free of charge, and there is a computer for guests without laptops.
Proud Phu Fah has an elevated swimming pool, with lovely views across the hillside gardens and mountainous landscape. The central restaurant building is the focal point, a two-tiered modern concrete structure, with bold pillars and airy open spaces. It serves hearty organic food, lovingly prepared at a leisurely pace. Asian, and particularly Thai cuisine is the speciality, with local organic produce sourced from nearby farms. Particular attention is paid to the nutritional value of food. The organic strawberry shake is a particularly welcoming arrival drink - served with a smile during the season.
At 1500 metres above sea level, the Mae Rim area has a fortunate location. Fresh mountain air and cool evening temperatures provide a nice balance to the daytime sun. The resort has paints and papers to create your artwork and postcards and encourages creative inspiration from the ever-changing light and textures.
There are many activities to fill your days. Mae Rim has nature options including an elephant camp, snake farm, royal botanical garden, monkey school, butterfly farm and waterfalls. The resort has mountain bikes, and excellent walking is available from its doorstep.
Proud Phu Fah blends effortlessly into its surroundings. It offers fine service without any sense of formality. This is a place for slowing down and taking it easy, at a very reasonable price.
Superior - This is what we would describe as our standard category. These will be decent 3/4* hotels providing a really good level of service. We would generally expect them to be providing a little something extra, in terms of character, guest experience or facilities too.
