Boduberu or "Big Drum", is an old traditional form of music in The Maldives, brought over by sailors in the 11th Century. The songs themselves are like ballards, telling songs about heroes, love or war. The beat often starts slow but speeds up over time. Heavily influenced by African culture, Boduberu is often accompanied with singing and dancing in an informal manner – there's no right or wrong way to move.
