On the small, quiet island of Villimale, learn about conservation efforts lead by local activists. Save the Beach is an NGO working to maintain the rich acquatic ecosystems of The Maldives. It began as a youth movement in 2008 to help protect the beaches by organising litter cleanups, planting trees around the shore and removing rubbish from reefs. The project has gone from success to success and now works to monitor nearby reefs, empower locals to recycle and deal with waste in an environmentally friendly way and actively engaging locals in the organisations aims with an education centre.
Witness first hand the impacts had on coral reefs by snorkeling or diving with conservationists on coral nursery maintenance trips. Also gain insight into the importance of The Maldives' ecosystems and reasons to protect its fragile environment.
