Victoria Express, Hanoi Vietnam, Hanoi and The North
The Victoria Express is the Victoria Hotel Groups private carriage on the overnight journey between Hanoi and Sapa. There are a handful of companies operating the route, but the Victoria Express stands out by considerable distance.
With the most comfortable beds, finest food and best cabins; the Victoria Express is the ideal way to make the long journey to Sapa pass in a blink. The air-conditioned, varnished hard wood cabins are available with two or four berths.
Departing in the evening from Hanoi station, the train arrives in Lao Cai on the Chinese border at 6am, where the hotels vehicles wait to greet you and take you on the final leg of the journey, through misty mountain slopes and terraced rice fields.
Travelling on the Victoria Express is an experience in itself and a magical part of any trip to the northern highlands of Vietnam. Please note that the Victoria Express can only be booked by guests staying at the Victoria Sapa Hotel.
Superior - This is what we would describe as our standard category. These will be decent 3/4* hotels providing a really good level of service. We would generally expect them to be providing a little something extra, in terms of character, guest experience or facilities too.
We joined the Victoria Express luxury night train to Lao Cai, the end of the line in the northern mountains. The compartment was a twin sleeping one with highly polished wood and brass, lovely and next door both Poirot and Miss Marple were staying! Rickty Rick and side to side, what an adventure!!
Departing from Hanoi and waking up in the mountains after a bumpy yet comfortable journey was a magical experience. We loved our time in Sapa and travelling by train made it all even better.
We have just returned from 3 wonderful weeks in Vietnam organised by Sam at Experience Travel Group. He certainly knows his stuff and was able to tailor the perfect package for our requirements!
