Info : Kinabatangan Riverside Lodge

The Kinabatangan Riverside Lodge is located in the riverside village of Sukau, and is accessible by either boat or car. An area famous for its populations of the endemic proboscis monkey and Bornean pygmy elephant, it is a great spot for wildlife spotting.

The lodge focuses on sustainable tourism, with rainwater collected and re-used, as well as the employment of local people and use of locally grown produce. Behind the lodge you will find a nature trail, great for spotting smaller wildlife or if you’re lucky, orangutan or red-leaf monkeys. This takes around 30 minutes to complete and is great for stretching your legs after a morning's wildlife spotting by boat on the river. The food is served buffet style on a riverside terrace, ensuring you get to soak up the atmosphere of the jungle whilst enjoying your locally grown food!

The rooms consist of 33 semi-detached wooden cabins on stilts, and although basic, provide comfort and a hot shower. Due to the isolated location of the lodge, air conditioning is not available in the rooms but the ceiling fan and breeze from the river should be sufficient overnight.

Although not luxurious by any means, this is a great place to unwind after a day’s wildlife spotting, and it really is incredible wildlife viewing here.

Eco/Adventure - This category covers gorgeous lodges in the jungle, comfortable safari camps and dreamy, but simple, beach cabanas. These places defy conventional categorisation: what is communing with nature to one person may be terrifying bugs to another! Many of these places are very comfortable and the service generally of a very high level - but please read the website review carefully and/or talk to us and be sure to have understood what you are letting yourselves in for!

Our guide Rin in Mulu was wonderful with the children and informative in the caves. She always had a ready smile and a good sense of humour.
