A Different Side of Rajasthan
An incredible journey; covering the famous sights but also exploring the Rajasthani countryside, wilderness and wildlife.
This charismatic converted private mansion (haveli) has made a large impression since opening in 2008. The haveli was built into the ramparts of the Bundi Garh Palace 300 years ago, and you can only enter by foot from the heart of the walled city, through the maze of winding alleyways and up through the original 40 foot stone archway.
Romantic doesn't begin to cover it. The surroundings are also pretty spectacular: the rolling Aravali hills, the town of Bundi with its vivid blue houses, and the lake down below. The views are best enjoyed from the lovely roof terrace where meals are served.
Seven rooms are modern and tastefully decorated, although some of them are smaller and dark. All of them are air-conditioned with comfortable beds and decent bathrooms. The service is very laidback and friendly and the food is delicious. Bundi itself is much less visited than places such as Jaipur and Jodhpur and in the eyes of many experienced India travellers, all the better for it.
Those with mobility issues might prefer to stay somewhere with easier access to the town, but if you’re fit and open for an authentic Indian experience, this is a great place to kick back on the rooftop terrace, enjoy a meal, and take in the incredible city and country views.
Homestay - What we mean by 'Homestay' is generally a large family owned house, still occupied by at least some members of the family. Interaction with guests is encouraged and is in fact unlikely to be avoided! These places always have bags of character are usually highly charming and can provide a fascinating shortcut towards understanding local life a little better. Facilities can range from the luxurious, to pretty basic and meals are generally taken as a group and served in the local style rather than from a menu. The service is almost always fairly quirky and idiosyncratic. Great fun.
