Info : Vientiane - Nam Ngum Lake Tour
Your local guide and driver will meet you at around 8.30am for this full-day tour to Nam Ngum Lake, approximately 90 kilometres north of Vientiane. Departing Vientiane on road number 10 it is possible to make a stop to observe traditional salt extraction at the village of Ban Keun, and sticky rice wine distillation at Ban Pak Khanhung.
Arrive at Nam Ngum Lake and order lunch at a local restaurant before taking a boat trip on the lake, enjoying the panoramic views. The lake is an incredibly scenic vast artificial lake with many small islands that was formed when the Ngum River was dammed for hydroelectricity. Take a trip around the lake by boat, and it is possible to enjoy a swim in the clear waters before returning to the local restaurant for lunch.
After lunch begin the return journey to Vientiane along highway number 13. Along the way make a stop to visit the archaeological site of Vang Xang and an ethnic minority market, often frequented by Hmong people. Arrive back in Vientiane late afternoon.
Matt really listened to what we were looking for and our itinerary was a joint project making good use of his knowledge and experience. We were really impressed by how well most of the hotels and guides were integrated into their local communities and were particularly impressed by Pong who guided us in the north of Laos. He really went the extra mile to help us meet and talk with local people and he was clearly well known and liked in the villages we went to!
