The Kingfisher Eco Lodge is a great little retreat with sixteen rooms and a swimming pool, thiry minutes from Champasak in southern Laos. Simple yet comfortable, the community is involved in the running of the property.
The area around the lodge is one of the most beautiful in the country and great for those that love the outdoors. The lodge is situated close to the Xe Pian Natural Protected Area, a haven for flora and fauna.
There are sixteen rooms split into two different categories; Comfort Bungalows and Deluxe Comfort Bungalows. There are a total of seven stilted Comfort Bungalows, all with double bed, en-suite bathroom, glass front wall and private veranda for admiring the view. These rooms also come with solar-powered hot water, solar-powered lights and ceiling fans. The nine Deluxe Rooms are located in bungalows overlooking the wetlands, constructed from wood and bamboo. Sit back on the balcony with a beer or a coffee and watch the fisherman and the buffalo in the nearby wetland and fields.
The lodge's restaurant and bar are built in a two-storey structure with great views and serve a variety of Lao and western food.
The lodge offers a wide range of excursions and activities, mainly based on exploring the surrounding wetlands and wildlife sanctuaries. There are several hikes, walks and cycle rides for all abilities and fitness levels. Elephant safaris and riding courses have recently been added to the list too.
The Kingfisher Eco Lodge is run on sustainable and responsible tourism principles and has several impressive initiatives, such as donating 5% of the costs of activities towards a fund supporting a local school.
The lodge is a great place to explore some of the lesser-visited areas of Laos and would appeal to those who love wildlife & nature and anyone who likes getting off the beaten track. A great addition to your holiday to Laos.
Eco/Adventure - This category covers gorgeous lodges in the jungle, comfortable safari camps and dreamy, but simple, beach cabanas. These places defy conventional categorisation: what is communing with nature to one person may be terrifying bugs to another! Many of these places are very comfortable and the service generally of a very high level - but please read the website review carefully and/or talk to us and be sure to have understood what you are letting yourselves in for!
