The Victoria Golf Course in Kandy is the newest of all the island's courses. Overlooking the sweeping panoramas of the Victoria Reservoir and dam, this has to be one the most beautiful places in Asia to play golf.
18 holes in length, the course is set on a large 717-acre site with a large 8 kilometres of water frontage. The course was designed by the British designer Donald Steel. He had to work around misty mountains, natural rock formations and an environment that was home to at least 70 types of birds, types of deer, mongoose and fishing cats.
Mountain bikes are available for those who wish to scout the surrounding of the course. Nature trails and bird watching locations are there for the environmentalist traveller. And the 8 Km water frontage of the Victoria Tank offers a cool dip, some quiet fishing.
Wonderfully landscaped, the forest trees interspersed with shrubs are skillfully blended to create a natural terrain through which the course is routed. The course even meets the specification of the USA Golf Association. Challenging T-shots and narrow coconut tree-lined fairways characterise the course.
Non-members are welcome and clubs & caddies can be hired for the day.
The Victoria Golf Course can be visited easily from any of the great places to stay in Kandy. There are also a number of good places to be found within the grounds themselves. Talk to us to discover more.
