The first two nights are spent in Martins Simple Lodge exploring the incomparable Sinharaja Rainforest. This is rough and ready accommodation right by the park. There are many walks through here, both long and short, and an astonishing array of birdlife, flora, reptiles and mammals. The Sinharaja is one of the worlds great ecological resources.
The third day is spent walking in the beauty of Sri Lankas central highlands. The scenery is completely different here, with mysterious cloud forests, rolling tea covered hills and spectacular waterfalls. Accommodation is a friendly family guesthouse in Bandarawela.
From here you take a spectacular train through the mountains to Ella and then drive down to Buttala and yet another completely contrasting landscape: that of the south east dry-zone forests. Stay in Treetops Jungle Lodge, a kind of jungle base-camp and a more relaxing, more interesting experience, you will not find. Walking excursions into this fascinating remote area where humans and elephants live side by side are led by local trackers. An excursion into Yala National Park is also included.
