Karpaha Sands, Pasikudah

This luxury-tent property sits on a beautiful, quiet stretch of beach in Kalkudah Bay just south of Passikudah. Within the peaceful surroundings of a coconut plantation, the ocean is right on your doorstep. Explore with the sand beneath your toes and spend your days relaxing on sun loungers on the beach, by the large saltwater pool or on your private deck. You may even see the local fishermen hauling in the nets in the mornings. The beach is tranquil and pristine, and swimming conditions are quite good year-round, though the seas are calmest when the weather is great in the summer.

There are 17 tents divided into three categories. All are very spacious and decorated in natural materials. You’ll have a plush king-size bed, living area, indoor bathroom with outdoor shower, air-conditioning and a private deck with sun loungers. Palam suites have direct sea views in the shade of the coconut palms, while the Kolaya suites are set amongst the gardens and offer more privacy. Great for families or groups, the Seed rooms have two bedrooms.

Art is a big part of Karpaha, and they showcase contemporary Sri Lankan pieces. You’ll find unique sculptures, photography, paintings and other works from locals dotted around the property.

As for food, you can dine in the restaurant with views over the coconut plantation and ocean, in the privacy of your suite or even a romantic dinner on the beach. With it’s proximity to the ocean, of course, delicious fresh seafood is served, and the flavours of the Tamil and Sinhalese cuisines celebrated using fresh organic ingredients. There is also a spa where you can enjoy Ayurvedic treatments.
