Anantara Chiang Mai,
Thailand, North and East
Info : Anantara Chiang Mai
Located on the banks of the Mae Ping River in the centre of Chiang Mai, the Anantara offers luxurious and peaceful accommodation within walking distance of the city's main attractions. The site was the former British Consulate in Chiang Mai and the designers have incorporated its main building into the hotels expansion and development. Now housing 84 rooms and suites, the hotel combines the facilities and amenities of a large resort with the personal service and privacy of a much smaller property.
Modern Asian design has been employed throughout with contemporary interpretation of traditional Thai materials. Wooden panelled walls and flooring has been used in all the rooms and much of the exterior. Motorised blinds, flat screen televisions and sliding doors ensure space is maximised and clutter-free. A subtle colour scheme lends a calm atmosphere throughout and the use of a variety of woods gives an organic feel to the bold, modern design. Wireless internet is available free of charge. A long swimming pool runs parallel to the river and is great for fun dips or more serious swimming. The in-house spa offers massage and treatments in state of the-art surroundings. The facilities include 10 private spa suites with steam showers and terrazzo bathtubs. There is also a well equipped gym overlooking the river.
The hotel has one main restaurant situated in a free standing colonial wooden building dated circa 1913. It serves a selection of Thai, Indian and international cuisine with indoor and outdoor seating, the latter overlooking the river. There is an additional Terrace Bar offering a casual, relaxed atmosphere day bed seating and views of the river.
The rooms are divided into two categories - 'Deluxe' and 'Club Suites'. 'Deluxe Rooms' have king size or twin beds and a choice of garden or river view. Each room has a private courtyard entrance, spacious bathroom with separate bathtubs and shower and also a large balcony with comfy day bed. The suites are much larger and include a spacious lounge area. The lounge sofas can be converted into extra beds if required. Additional facilities in the suite rooms include free minibar and Espresso coffee machines.
One of the best hotels in Chiang Mai; elegant, contemporary and refined.
Luxury - Luxury hotels would have a superb level of service, very comfortable and usually spacious bedrooms, excellent food, great design and character. For us, when we visited, these places all had the 'wow factor'. A luxury hotel should satisfy the criteria of the most discerning clients.

I started doing a search on the net for specialists and came across Experience Travel Group. I liked a lot what I saw on their website so started an online dialogue with one of their operators. She quickly realised what we are looking for and got one of her colleges who was a specialist in this area. A chap called David Gookey called me back to chat about what we wanted. We gave David a brief for our budget and the type of things that we wanted to do and he did the rest. All I can say is he put together the perfect holiday, sorted out the best tours and some incredible hotels. All guides, flights, transport and transfers taken care of. If you're reading this David thank you once again.
