Located on the banks of the Mae Ping River in the centre of Chiang Mai, the Anantara offers luxurious and peaceful accommodation within walking distance of the city's temples and night market. The site was the former British Consulate in Chiang Mai and the designers have incorporated its main building into the hotel's expansion and development. Now housing 84 rooms and suites, the hotel combines the facilities and amenities of a large resort with the personal service and privacy of a much smaller property.
Modern Asian design has been employed throughout with contemporary interpretation of traditional Thai materials. Wooden panelled walls and flooring have been used in all the rooms and much of the exterior. Motorised blinds and sliding doors ensure space is maximised and clutter-free. A subtle colour scheme lends a calm atmosphere throughout and the use of a variety of woods gives an organic feel to the bold, modern design. A long swimming pool runs parallel to the river, the in-house spa offers treatments in tranquil surroundings and there is a well-equipped gym overlooking the river.
For a unique experience, the hotel's restaurant The Service 1921, is well worth dining in even if you don't stay here. Linking back to the Consulate days, it has a rather unusual but very cool British Military Intelligence theme. A selection of Thai, Indian and international cuisine is served. An additional Terrace Bar offers a casual, relaxed atmosphere day bed seating and views of the river.
The rooms are divided into two categories - 'Deluxe' and 'Club Suites'. 'Deluxe Rooms' have king-size or twin beds and a choice of garden or river view. Each room has a private courtyard entrance, spacious bathroom with separate bathtubs and shower and also a large balcony with comfy day bed. The suites are much larger and include a spacious lounge area. The lounge sofas can be converted into extra beds for families.
One of the best hotels in central Chiang Mai; elegant, contemporary and refined.
Deluxe - This is our first really 'upmarket' category. It might be a beautiful tiny hotel with very limited facilities or a 5* resort hotel with all the trimmings; but any hotel in this category will be a well-run establishment with very comfortable rooms, a strong service ethos and excellent food.
