Not far from Hoi An’s central market, packed wooden boats shuttle people, bicycles, motorcycles and produce across the Thu Bon River between the old town and Cam Kim Island. Grab a bicycle and climb aboard. An early morning or late afternoon spent cycling around Cam Kim Island is a delight.
Stunning rural scenes, rice paddies, villages and quiet roads are the big draws of Cam Kim. Cycling in Vietnam usually involves some nervous encounters but Cam Kim’s roads are traffic free, flat and relatively safe. There will be plenty of opportunities for taking photographs and simply absorbing the wonderful scenery. The boat ride is part of the fun. The locals will look surprised as you board with your bike!
On the island you will meet with local artisans as they make beautiful and unique items from wood. Then, experience the wonderful countryside by taking a guided bicycle trip along peaceful village roads. Highlights include visiting the Duy Vinh commune mat village, rice paper factory, tropical fruit garden and rice fields as well as children in kindergarten, and farmers and fisherman at work.
