Described as the ultimate indulgence in space and privacy the Dutch House is simply stunning. One of Sri Lanka's best-preserved mansions of the Dutch period was lovingly restored to offer guests four gorgeous suites. Soft earthy colours predominate and the tropical light is used to wonderful effect through the Dutch pillars and across the wide lawn.
The property lies over the road from the Sun House and the excellent management team runs both properties. The same painstaking approach to the interiors has left a deeply stylish but homely and peaceful atmosphere for the unhurried guests.
The garden is large and peaceful, while the swimming pool is beautifully positioned at its edge. The property, high on a hill overlooking Galle, has views of the old Galle Fort, the peaceful harbour and the Indian ocean.
A reputation for service and cuisine goes before the Sun House and with this property, they have added four of the most beautiful suites in the island, if not the whole of Asia.
Luxury - Luxury hotels would have a superb level of service, very comfortable and usually spacious bedrooms, excellent food, great design and character. For us, when we visited, these places all had the 'wow factor'. A luxury hotel should satisfy the criteria of the most discerning clients.
