After years of neglect, The Menjangan has been beautifully restored to suit the scale and splendour of its setting: 382 hectares of protected forest, mangroves and coral-rich coast inside West Bali National Park.
The resort offers a rare way to experience one of Bali’s quietest corners, where you’re just as likely to hear deer calls as crashing waves.
A real highlight of the resort is the spectacular view from the main tower restaurant. Made entirely from wood, and supported by five 33 metre long logs, this five-story pavilion-style structure reaches well above the tree line. All that can be seen from here are the endless forests, the idyllic coastline and the towering volcanoes, both in Bali and nearby Java.
The famous Menjangan Island, a short boat trip away, offers some of, if not the, best snorkelling and diving in Bali, while the idyllic lagoons provide some of the last remote, unspoilt and white sand beaches on the island. This is a setting that is equally conducive to relaxing and doing nothing or enjoying the range of activities available including the dive school, overnight diving trips, kayaking, horse riding, forest trekking, bird watching and bicycle hire. Covering such a large area, and with such contrasting accommodation options, a split stay is highly recommended.
The Rooms
With a range of lovely spots to stay from beach villas, jungle suites and a clifftop villa spread across the huge resort, the resort fits all needs and gives guests a vast array of options and activities.
The six beachfront villas, built into a beautiful little bay with their restaurant and service area, provide a modern style that fits in with the remote and idyllic surroundings. The good-sized rooms have been designed around the surrounding nature and open out onto the sea.
The monsoon lodge jungle suites, with a 24-hour concierge service, are tastefully decorated in a traditional Balinese manner with hardwood antiques. They are set around a pool and provide a beautiful location from which to explore and enjoy the forest.
For families, there is the three-bedroom Menjangan Residence, a beautifully restored, fully staffed, clifftop villa with panoramic sea views and even a private pool to splash about it.
