Depart your home country on a flight bound for Kuala Lumpur.
This two-part adventure combines Borneo’s untamed wilderness with Bali’s serene coastal charm.
Trek through lush rainforests, spot orangutans and explore river ecosystems alive with wildlife before flying to Bali for a well-earned beach stay. With private guides and characterful lodges throughout, it’s a journey that balances thrilling discovery with ultimate relaxation.
Orangutan's & Dragons in Borneo & Komodo
As with all our holidays, this itinerary is just a starting point. We will create a bespoke package which will be completely unique for you.
Day 1
Your adventure begins
Day 2
Kuala Lumpur
Rest and acclimatise in Kuala Lumpur before your Borneo adventure. Your hotel has a lovely swimming pool and a relaxing spa.
Days 3 - 4
Kinabatangan River
There are several direct flights per day from Kuala Lumpur to Sandakan and we recommend an early one so you can get straight to the heart of the rainforest today! In this region, you’ll explore the Kinabatangan River, where the surrounding jungle is alive with primates and birds. There are many opportunities to spot wildlife during guided nocturnal treks and boat trips along the river.
We usually recommend splitting your stay in this region between Kinabatangan Riverside Lodge and Abai Jungle Lodge, as the orangutans sometimes congregate at one rather than the other, and this will give you the best chance of seeing them. In addition to the famous Bornean orangutan, you’re also likely to see proboscis monkeys and pygmy elephants during your stay.
Days 5 - 6
Danum Valley
You’ll travel onward today to the Danum Valley Conservation Area, one of the world’s most complex ecosystems. This dense jungle region is home to wildlife including mammals, reptiles and an array of amazing birds. There are canopy walkways and jungle trails to be explored with your guide. You can cool off in natural jacuzzi pools or under waterfalls, take in amazing views and listen to the hum of wildlife.
In the evening, there’s an exciting 4WD safari drive to try and spot nocturnal animals such as sambar deer and civet cats, as well as insects and frogs.
Day 7
Kota Kinabalu
It’s just a short 50-minute flight from Lahad Datu to Kota Kinabalu.
Accommodation here is on the waterfront in the city itself.
Days 8 - 10
Travel to Ubud, Bali
Depart Kota Kinabalu today on a direct flight south to the island of Bali.
During your time in Ubud, you will get an insider’s perspective on the artwork, architecture, food and rural scenery that make this island special. There will also be a unique private walking tour through the beautiful countryside guided by a local Balinese Priest who will offer a great insight into Balinese nature, religion and culture. There is also the option of a downhill cycle ride from Mount Batur through lush tropical paddy fields, coffee plantations and local villages.
Days 11 - 14
Flores & Komodo
For the last (but definitely not least!) part of your adventure, take a short flight to Labuan Bajo on Flores, the launch pad for your once-in-a-lifetime adventure in Komodo National Park.
Step on to your liveaboard boat, your home for the next four days, and get ready to experience the magic of cruising this pristine part of the world. It’s possible to explore Komodo on day trips from the mainland, but by staying on a boat, you’ll have access to prime spots before the crowds arrive and, even better, reach secluded islands that most travellers can only dream about.
You’ll snorkel through some of the most extraordinary coral reefs, glide alongside gentle manta rays, and swim with Nemo and turtles in crystalline waters. When the sun dips below the horizon, the magic isn’t over. Evenings back on deck are all about soaking up spectacular sunsets at sea, dining under the star-studded sky (look out for the Milky Way), and spotting glowing bioluminescence.
Spend a morning on Padar, known for its picture-postcard viewpoint, and the afternoon on Komodo, trekking with a park ranger in search of the legendary dragons themselves.
Day 15
Fly home
Depart Labuan Bajo for your flight back home via Kuala Lumpur.
Borneo Wildlife Adventure
Two weeks exploring areas of Sarawak & Sabah. Orangutans building nests, elephants swimming, hornbills flapping, insects galore and much more. Good food too. ETG listen to you and tailor a trip to your needs. Their on the ground support provided great communication and were so good when things don't quite go to plan.

Meet Our Indonesia Experts
Lola’s love for Indonesia runs deep – and not just for Bali (though she has a soft spot for its magical interior and knows exactly where to find the best warung for lunch). What really excites her is helping travellers uncover the country’s sheer variety – from the smouldering volcanoes of Java to the rich marine areas in far-flung corners like Raja Ampat.
“From Borneo’s jungles to Bali’s shores, experience a journey of wild encounters, gentle rhythms and unforgettable contrasts.”

Important FAQs about Indonesia
At Experience Travel Group, we’ve been crafting immersive holidays in Indonesia for over a decade – long before most travellers look beyond Bali. Our in-depth local knowledge, long-standing partnerships, and genuine love for the country mean we can help you experience Indonesia in a way that’s special and unusual.
Over the years, we’ve developed thoughtful experiences that bring together cultural richness, comfort, and freedom to explore. Think family-friendly beach retreats, wildlife encounters, volcano treks, or private boat trips through island chains few people can name – all tailored to suit you.
With our expert planning and on-the-ground support, you can relax knowing everything’s taken care of – while still having the freedom to discover Indonesia your way. We don’t do one-size-fits-all. Every trip is personalised, every route considered, and every detail planned to help you uncover what makes this country truly remarkable.
Let us show you the Indonesia we know and love.
The short answer? Your best bet is during the summer. The slightly longer answer? Indonesia is massive – a 4,000km stretch of sea and islands, home to thousands of microclimates and shifting seasons. So when you search for the “best time to visit Indonesia” and get five different answers… they’re probably all right. Just for different places.
Most travellers aim for April to October, when much of the country sees its driest, sunniest weather. This works especially well for Bali, Lombok, Java, and Komodo. These months also line up neatly with the European and US summer holidays, which makes planning easier, especially for families.
But here’s where it gets interesting. If you’re heading to Raja Ampat or West Papua, the best time is the opposite – from October to April. Wildlife in Sumatra is great in the mid-year months, while the rainforests of Kalimantan stay steamy year-round (it’s a jungle, after all). And if you’re hoping to catch a particular cultural event or religious festival, that can shift the calendar entirely.
Every ETG holiday to Indonesia is designed to feel seamless, immersive and stress free. We’ll arrange international flights (if you’d like us to), your drivers and guides, and stays in characterful hotels we know and trust.
You’ll experience Indonesia in a way that’s completely tailored to you – from quiet moments to big adventures – all planned by our Indonesia specialists. And while you’re away, our local team is on hand 24/7, so you’ll always feel well looked after.
