Hue Garden House with home-cooked lunch
Hue’s garden houses are illustrious examples of grand dynasties passed. Each is built with traditional old timbers, featuring the typical brick roofing of Hue and set amidst beautiful, landscaped gardens.
Hue’s garden houses once served as the residences of royal relatives, court officials, elite families, as well as poets and writers during the period when Hue stood as the capital of Vietnam. At that time, the city formed the epicentre of Vietnamese culture, and these homes reflected both status and intellect.
Today, families continue to worship their ancestors in the main buildings, while descendants live in the divided sections of the house. As a result, these garden houses now form a living link between royal architecture and folk traditions from Hue’s imperial past.
This morning, you will visit one of the best-preserved garden houses, set between the Royal Palace and Thien Mu Pagoda. On arrival, the owner will welcome you and gladly share his knowledge of Hue’s history and architecture. Afterwards, his wife will prepare a traditional Vietnamese lunch, which you will enjoy together in the calm and privacy of their garden.
