A great place for nature and outdoor lovers, Cat Tien is one of the only six biosphere reserves recognised by UNESCO in Vietnam. Protecting one of the largest areas of lowland tropical rainforests in the country, Cat Tien has incredible biodiversity. It is home to rare species of fauna and flora, as well as animals including Asian elephants, sun bears, gaur and a variety of smaller mammals (although you would be highly unlikely to spot an elephant) amongst an array of birdlife. There is plenty to see and do, from boat trips and kayaking along the rivers, a visit to local communities that reside within the park or to the wildlife rescue station.
It’s one of the best places in Vietnam for trekking and bird watching, along with cycling and mountain biking through the lush forests. The park can get popular amongst Vietnamese tourists and, in order to protect the land, tourist numbers are limited.
Northeast of Ho Chi Minh, it can be reached in about three to four hours and is, therefore, best to stay for at least one night. Speak to our Vietnam experts to plan your visit to this pristine national park.
