Set along a quiet stretch of Sire Beach, Hotel Tugu Lombok is as much an art collection as it is a place to stay.
Created by one of Southeast Asia’s foremost antique collectors, you’re completely surrounded by wonderful artefacts, from temple structures to intricately carved wood furnishings.
Among 6 hectares of gorgeous gardens and facing the open ocean, this is a very relaxing beach hotel.
For a bit more buzz, boat trips to the Gili Islands or a 30 minute drive to Senggigi open up a variety of restaurants and bars.
All in all, this is a lovely hotel for those looking for some stylish, laid-back and unpretentious luxury on a pretty and peaceful beach.
There’s a great restaurant and an even better bar here. Their open-air restaurant, Kokok Pletok, is spacious and crowned by a soaring 15-metre thatched roof, looking over lotus ponds and tropical greenery. The menu leans into what Tugu does best: refined international dishes with Asian and Indonesian flair. You can also have a romantic dinner on the beach or a picnic under the moonlight.
Wind down by the large pool, stretch out with a book, or simply take in the view across the water with the Gili Islands rising on the horizon. The beautifully kept gardens and soft sweep of sand create an easy rhythm to do very little, very well. For further relaxation head to the spa.
Fancy something more active? Head out on snorkelling, diving or surfing trips, or play a round at the nearby 18-hole golf course. If you’re up for a bigger adventure, hiking routes around Mount Rinjani offer a chance to increase your heart rate and see a wilder side of Lombok.
The Rooms
There are just 22 villas and suites spread thoughtfully across the gardens, offering a sense of space. Interiors are incredibly traditional in terms of Indonesian design, with stylish local antiques lending a strong sense of place, while still delivering all the comforts you’d expect. Bathrooms are particularly generous, with oversized copper bathtubs that feel indulgent without losing that heritage character.
We particularly recommend the Aloon-Aloon garden villas as a great starting point, which have their own private gardens and a sense of seclusion that works well for couples. If you’re after a little more luxury, the Bhagavat Gita suites step things up with private pools overlooking the ocean, bringing you closer to the water while keeping that sense of privacy intact. Great for families.
