The Ark
Families,
Couples
Perched at the top of 40 acres of private forest reserve, halfway between Bentota and Sinharaja, The Ark is about as far off the beaten track as it gets.
The road to get here is narrow, long and winding, be warned, but it’s more than worth it: arrive and the outside world falls away almost immediately.
The setting is extraordinary. Surrounded by dense jungle on all sides, the villa sits at the highest point of its own wilderness, with nature trails threading through the sea of green below and brilliant birdlife overhead.
For those who want to venture further, Bentota’s beaches are within reach, and there are cultural encounters nearby: rubber tapping and tea plucking offer ways into the rhythms of rural Sri Lanka.
This isn’t the place to take very young children (though it’s great for adventurous older children and teenagers who’ll love how unique it is).
The wide terrace is the social heart of the villa — ideal for outdoor dining, evening conversation or simply doing nothing and soaking in the views. The chef serves up both Sri Lankan and Western dishes. (Note that the lodge doesn’t serve alcohol, though you’re welcome to bring your own.)
The pool is another highlight, where the views sweeping over the verdant valley below are just extraordinary.
The Rooms
There are just three double rooms; beautifully furnished with wood and warm colours.
All have ensuite bathrooms.
