Wherever you go becomes a part of you somehow - Anita Desai
Chione's Biog
After a year in Germany as part of her degree and a stint in Italy working as an English teacher, Chione knew she wanted travel to be a central part of her life.
She decided to venture further afield and explore Asia, heading first to India. She spent 5 months travelling all the way from North to South and then North again! Whilst in India, she spent time volunteering in a children’s orphanage in a village near Chennai, taking in the dramatic landscapes and Buddhist calm of remote Ladakh, and cruising around the backwaters of Kerala. She took a 32-hour train journey from Delhi to Chennai in Sleeper Class which was certainly a unique experience!
Chione continued onwards - east to Thailand where she explored Bangkok and the North before hopping across to Vietnam where she settled in Hanoi and spent 9 months working as an English teacher. She fell in love with the vibrant capital, it’s delicious street food and the pockets of calm in the chaos like the serene Hoan Kiem Lake and the Botanical Gardens. In the school holidays, Chione travelled around Vietnam and particularly enjoyed exploring the countryside in areas like Ninh Binh, Mai Chau and Pu Luong – the highlight was a 4-day motorbike trip to mountainous Ha Giang Province near the Chinese border, known for its terraced rice-fields and breath-taking views.
Chione now has a passion for travel in Asia and hopes to visit other ETG destinations as soon as she can. She would also love to go back to India as there is so much still to explore out there, but maybe this time without the 32-hour train ride…
