Going off the beaten track in Bali’s countryside to feel the magic of ‘The Island of the Gods’

Jiwa Jawa Resort Bromo
Scenic location,
Close to Mount Bromo

Families

Set high on the volcanic slopes of East Java, this hotel has dramatic views over the hills below often draped in mist. A great place to rest after exploring Mount Bromo.
There are very few good hotels in this pretty part of Indonesia and Jiwa Jawa Bromo, formerly Java Banana Bromo, is one of the most reliable places to stay.
Located in a small village called Wonotoro at around 2000m altitude, there’s a significant temperature difference and thinner air than at sea level in Java (you can expect temperatures of about 14-18 degrees). The nearby village is easily explored on foot and is a must if you’d like to experience how rural mountain dwellers live.

Although Jiva Jawa Resort Bromo welcomes all types of travellers, most of the guests here are active, adventurous types. It has the essential creature comforts you need after a day’s adventures.
There’s a restaurant serving delicious meals on an a la carte basis and a small shop where you can buy items you may need for your exploring. The gallery and café will give you an insight into local art and photography and are the best places to access Wi-Fi.
This retreat might not have all the bells and whistles of a 5-star hotel but the location and charm will be good enough for most.

The Rooms
The rooms are built from natural wooden materials in blocks of 8 or so, which blend in with the hilly landscape.
They are well maintained, with comfy beds and pleasant soft furnishings. The bathrooms are functional but might feel a little small to some.
The private balcony is the real highlight of the room, giving light and sweeping views across the Bromo valley.
