Plataran Komodo Resort is a lovely beachfront retreat and one of the best-positioned hotels for exploring Komodo National Park, an incredible part of the world.
Set in a quiet cove near Labuan Bajo, this hotel offers privacy and access to some of Indonesia’s most extraordinary marine and wildlife experiences, from diving to spotting the formidable Komodo dragon.
With villas dotted across the hillside, garden and shoreline, it’s the kind of place where you can hear the sea from your room and take breakfast barefoot in the sand (served by your butler, no less!).
This is a great fit for couples, families or solo travellers wanting to explore this area. It works just as well for downtime as it does for active days at sea.
From the resort, you can set off on boat trips to Rinca or Komodo to see the fascinating and seemingly prehistoric Komodo dragons up close. You can also take snorkelling or diving trips to explore the exceptional marine park or make use of the complimentary canoes to discover the surrounding crystal-clear waters teeming with beautiful animals dolphins and turtles.
The hotel offers a range of dining options, but highlights of your stay could include a hike up Plataran Hill for a sunrise picnic with panoramic views or one of the resort’s barbecues under the stars.
The Rooms
Villas vary in size and layout, with some opening directly onto the beach and others tucked into gardens with private pools.
Interiors blend warm wood with a few traditional touches, feeling lived-in but well cared for.
Every villa has indoor-outdoor space and a real sense of privacy.
Families should note that some villas include outdoor staircases, which may be best avoided — something we’re happy to advise on.
