The Sanubari
Secluded beach,
Horse riding
Couples
Kilometres of empty white sand, waves rolling in a few steps from your villa and not another soul in sight.
The Sanubari is a barefoot-luxury retreat on the wild west coast of Sumba, one of Indonesia’s most untouched islands. It’s the only resort on its beach, and it keeps things deliberately small, so privacy comes as standard.
We’ve seen our fair share of beaches, and this one is truly exceptional.
Relaxation is the main event here, but there’s plenty to do when you want it.
The signature experience is horse riding along the shoreline, and you can also surf, trek into the hills or explore the island’s traditional villages, home to one of the world’s last living megalithic cultures.
The setting is what makes it. Imagine a vast stretch of powdery white sand, blue waves crashing just metres from your villa, and complete seclusion.
With its peaceful, off-grid feel, The Sanubari is best suited to couples. We recommend staying at least three nights to properly unwind before heading home or onto the next part of your adventure.
All in all, this is a rare, remote escape that’s very hard to leave.
The Rooms
There are only a handful of villas, each opening straight onto the beach with ocean views.
They vary in size, but all offer plenty of space and an understated elegance. The decor is minimal with traditional touches, blending into the natural surroundings.
The villas come with private pools, perfect for a dip between beach walks.
