Taru Villas Villu
Families,
Couples
Located at the southern entrance to Wilpattu National Park, Taru Villas Villu is a well-positioned boutique retreat for Sri Lankan safaris.
Wilpattu is Sri Lanka’s largest national park, covering more than 1,300 square kilometres of dry-zone forest, wetlands and open plains. Elephants and sloth bears move through it, and the park holds one of the highest concentrations of Sri Lankan leopard anywhere in the country. Taru Villas Villu sits at the park’s southern end in the Eluwankulama area, an entrance that sees far fewer vehicles than the north.
The resort’s naturalists specialise in Wilpattu specifically, and their knowledge shapes every safari. On a full-day outing, the chance of a leopard sighting runs at around 80%.
This eco-luxury hotel is a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World.
This is a strong choice for wildlife travellers who want depth without sacrificing comfort. If you’re looking to experience Wilpattu with expert guidance, fewer crowds, and a more polished, intimate lodge to return to, it delivers well.
Couples and small groups in particular will appreciate the balance of understated luxury and meaningful safari time, with space to relax properly between outings.
Shared spaces, including the main pool and restaurant, remain quiet and feel personal even when the lodge is full (a perk of the lodge’s small size).
The Rooms
There are just seven villas, spread out so they feel private and peaceful.
Design and interiors are relaxed but thoughtfully done, with thatched roofs, soaring ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows that let the jungles views in. It’s a modern take on inside-outside living, and it works.
The five Premier Chalets are incredibly spacious and have everything you need to relax and refresh after a day exploring, including private plunge pools.
There are two inter-connecting rooms for families.
