Nature nuts

Set among sixty acres of wild forest, beside glassy lakes and at the foot of the mysterious Paramakanda Rock Temple, The Mudhouse is a unique eco-retreat in a serene pocket of Sri Lanka.
This off-grid lodge is made up of characterful, thatched huts crafted entirely from natural materials, so you feel deeply immersied within the surrounding jungle.
You can do as much or as little as you like, with cycling, kayaking, birdwatching, and cooking classes all included. A stay here offers a glimpse into daily life in rural Sri Lanka, where nature is ever-present and creature comforts are carefully considered. Birdlife thrives here, and the lodge makes an ideal base for exploring nearby sanctuaries, ancient cities, beaches, and Wilpattu National Park, either before or after exploring the Cultural Triangle.

The Mudhouse is designed for travellers who want to step away from their everyday and immerse themselves in Sri Lanka’s wild side.
Romantic, private, and playful in equal measure, it suits couples, families and friends.
Kids thrive in this open-air setting, with endless space to explore. For anyone seeking adventures in nature and the peace of a remote location, The Mudhouse is an excellent choice: one of Sri Lanka’s most distinctive and enchanting places to stay.

The Rooms
The rooms here are anything but standard: a collection of uniquely designed, thatched huts scattered through the sprawling grounds.
Each private “village” has separate areas for sleeping, dining and lounging, offering both space and privacy. Built entirely from natural materials, they blend effortlessly into the landscape while offering simple comforts.
Expect double beds, en-suite Western toilets, and open-air jungle showers. At night, the atmosphere is magical, with soft candlelight, kerosene lamps, and the hum of the surrounding jungle.
