Amanpuri
The very first Aman,
Blissful location
Couples,
Family
Opened in 1988, Amanpuri is where the Aman story began. Decades on, it still ranks among Phuket’s finest resorts.
Not merely through constant renovation but through consistency, design and exceptional service.
Coconut palms frame pavilions that step gently down towards a white-sand beach, while architecture inspired by traditional Thai design gives the whole place a quiet sense of order.
It feels gloriously secluded, yet never cut off. Days drift between the pool, the sea and shaded terraces, with the rhythm of the resort encouraging you to slow down.
This is Phuket at its most composed.
Amanpuri suits travellers who are into hotels, and look for a sense of calm above all else.
It works particularly well if you want to experience Phuket without the crowds, and access to excellent dining, wellness and watersports without needing to leave.
The pool sits at the heart of the resort, with elegant hotels Buabok (serving Southern Thai cuisine), Arva (Italian) and Nama (Japanese), opening directly onto it. A stone stairway leads down to the beach, where the Beach Terrace, the Mediterranean-inflected Nura beach club, and the Eco-Beach Discovery Centre for teenagers are all within easy reach.
There’s also a glass-fronted Gym and Pilates Studio with panoramic ocean views as part of their Holistic Wellness Centre, and a soothing Spa.
The Rooms
Accommodation is made up of pavilions and villas, each designed with clean lines, high ceilings and a restrained Thai aesthetic. Pavilions are spacious with outdoor salas for lounging and views over gardens or the ocean.
Villas take things up a notch, with multiple bedrooms, private pools and dedicated staff, making them ideal for families or groups.
Throughout, the focus is on space and simplicity. Polished wood, soft fabrics and layouts that flow easily between indoor and outdoor living. Bathrooms are large and well thought through, with deep soaking tubs and separate dressing areas.
While the design is classic sophisticated Aman, everything feels well maintained and refined rather than flashy.
