Koh Phra Thong is a rare find in Thailand these days as it has very little in the way of development. With its tiny population and untamed beauty, it offers a truly rural, rewarding escape.
The island has a remarkable “Savannah” area with unusually flat terrain and tropical conditions. For an extraordinary and slightly surreal encounter, we highly recommend going on the early morning 4×4 tour with ample opportunities to soak in a spectacular sunrise and spot some of the local wildlife.
The Rooms
The resort has 27 unique villas, built in traditional style and spread along a seven-mile stretch of pristine beach. Guests can choose between beachfront or jungle views, each with private gardens and decking.
In line with BABA’s eco ethos, villas use natural ventilation (no air-con) and solar-powered hot showers. With limited phone signal, it’s the place to have a bit of a digital detox and truly switch off.
The restaurant serves a daily menu of locally sourced dishes: simple, hearty, and not exactly fine dining, but full of flavour.
