The sleepy island of Koh Jum, shrouded in jungle, is a hidden gem that many travellers have yet to discover.
Peaceful, welcoming and relatively untouched, Koh Jum has managed to avoid mass development, with just one road linking the two main villages in the north and south.
This boutique resort looks out to the spectacular Phi Phi National Marine Park and can be reached in just an hour from Krabi, with easy access from Krabi’s airport.
It sits on a clean stretch of beach where the sea is usually good for swimming at high tide. Service here is personal but not intrusive, and there is a contemporary yet traditional Thai feel.
From the resort, take a short stroll or 15-minute bike ride to reach the nearest village, where you’ll find a handful of relaxed bars and restaurants. Otherwise, spend your time kayaking through mangroves, relax with a massage or drink in the bar, learn about the local cuisine during a cooking class or head out on a snorkelling day trip.
The Rooms
Each of the 24 villas is unique, with sea or garden settings and views, and 10 of them have private pools. There is a great range of accommodation to suit couples, groups and families, with one to five-bedroom villas available. Inside, they are spacious and open-plan, with a Thai-inspired design, art and antiques.
For an alternative beach stay in the south of Thailand, Koh Jum offers a more authentic setting than the norm in which to relax, swim and explore. Overall, it’s a great choice for families, large groups and couples who like to get away from the crowds.
